An elaborate relief sculpture that celebrates Edmonton’s icy winter climate. It is comprised of layers of frosted polycarbonate cut into hundreds of icicle-like outcroppings that span the length of a portion of the eaves at Callingwood Recreational Centre. The sculpture sits in front of a contrasting backdrop of galvanized steel tile. Inspired by natural phenomena, the piece resembles rain, a frozen waterfall and light penetrating through clouds. At night the sculpture illuminates to become a giant lantern that slowly and dramatically shifts in hue.
